The racing community continues to hope for the best as jockey Tye Angland remains in a serious but stable condition at Prince of Wales Hospital after a frightening fall at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The Jockey Club declined to release an update on Tuesday as the 29-year-old recovers from surgery that was performed on Monday.

Angland’s Australia-based manager Andrew Northridge provided an insight into his welfare on Monday, tweeting “more information regarding his injuries will be known in the coming days”.

Angland was speared headfirst into the ground when Go Beauty Go stumbled after leaving the gates in the ninth race.

Medical staff responded straight away but it took them 10 minutes to get him off the track, onto a stretcher and into the ambulance after going through all the necessary procedures required for an incident of that nature.

The Jockey Club reported he was conscious and responding at the time. Doctors at the hospital then put him through a range of scans and tests before making the decision to operate.

Angland’s wife Erin arrived in Hong Kong from Sydney on Monday morning to be by his side, while fellow jockeys Zac Purton, Sam Clipperton, Neil Callan and Chad Schofield are among those who have visited.

Well-wishers from across the globe have been vocal in their support for Angland on social media.

The Australian was competing at Sha Tin as a one-off, helping the Jockey Club fill a gap on the riding roster that was depleted through injury and suspension.

Angland, who spent four seasons in Hong Kong from 2010-14, was enjoying a good day in the saddle after collecting a winner on Follow Me for John Size as well as two placegetters.
