PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE
Spicy Spangle continued to knock on the door over the Valley 1,000m with a front-running second to King Alloy in May before making good ground late for sixth after a terrible start. He can break through if he jumps nicely from gate three. Macanese Master has a tricky gate but should be fitter for a speed-chasing fourth last Wednesday over 1,200m and returns to his preferred 1,000m. Always My Folks easily reeled in Macanese Master after a speed-tracking run on his return to the Valley 1,000m in April before staying on for fifths carrying 133lb and 134lb, respectively over 1,200m and 1,000m. However, he'll need to offset gate 12. Runjeet is still a maiden but should come on from a pace-prompting fourth from gate 13 on opening day at Sha Tin and was a close fourth in a rare Valley 1,200m run in June. He should map nicely from gate four for his first go over 1,000m.
TROUBLE IN RUNNING
TOPSPIN KING (L141) shortly after the start was badly crowded - Race 778.
BEAUTY GEMINI (L129) after being crossed by a runner near the 900M commenced to race keenly and was steadied for some distance thereafter. Near the 200M rider dropped his whip. Passing the 200M was steadied when crowded. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event - Race 001.
JOLLY COMPANION (H454) shifted out at the start and made contact with a runner - Race 005.
ICONICAL (J504) rider stated that his mount enjoyed a good run behind the lead during the event and failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight. He added the only explanation he could offer was that the horse might be better suited racing at Happy Valley. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 575.
DIRIYA (K282) shifted out at the start and made contact with a runner. When being crossed leaving the 1000M raced keenly, got its head up and refused to settle. Then raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Rider reported that after failing to settle in the early and middle stages his mount gave ground under pressure in the Home Straight. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 654.
RUNJEET (K276) rider reported that his mount laid out under pressure in the Home Straight - Race 001.
SMART CITY (J213) near the 1300M was steadied when crowded. Rider stated that his mount was under pressure from the 800M before being unable to run on in the Home Straight. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 797.
SPICY SPANGLE (J087) the Stewards considered an application from rider that his mount be declared a non-runner on the grounds that it had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Rider, Trainer and Starter, the Stewards found that the horse lunged forward and then reared as the start was being effected which resulted in the horse losing ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence occurred simultaneously to the start being effected, the horse was declared a runner. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 838.
SOLAR RIVER (J308) leaving the 900M commenced to race keenly when being steadied to allow a runner to cross. Approaching the 50M was steadied when crowded. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 011. .
