The majority of Hong Kong opposition lawmakers have decided to stay in the city’s Legislative Council for the duration of a term extended after the government postponed elections by a year in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Nineteen out of 22 pan-democrats said they will serve out their term in Legco, which resumes on October 1, 2020. Two opposition legislators, Eddie Chu Hoi-dick and Raymond Chan Chi-chuen, announced on September 28 that they will not serve out the extended term.
Civic Party vice-chairwoman Tanya Chan has also announced her decision to step away from politics citing health and family reasons.
