China’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Wang Wenbin said the resolution made by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee that gave local authorities the power to unseat opposition lawmakers in Hong Kong was “reasonable, constitutional and legal”.
Speaking to the press on November 11, 2020, Wang also said the move was targeting legislators who “do not meet the statutory requirements” for supporting the Basic Law and being loyal to the Hong Kong government.
