Legislative Council of Hong Kong

China’s top legislative body extends Legco by ‘not less than one year’

China’s top legislative body has passed a resolution extending the term of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council by a minimum of one year on August 11, 2020, paving the way for four opposition lawmakers previously banned from seeking re-election to stay in the legislature.

Whether the four will have to fulfil certain conditions or obligations, however, will be left up to the Hong Kong government, which is tasked with executing the mandate.
