Beijing hits back at Western sanctions against China’s alleged treatment of Uygur Muslims

The European Union, United Kingdom, United States and Canada have joined forces to launch sanctions against China on March 22, 2021, over suspected human rights abuses in the far western region of Xinjiang. The US government and Canadian parliament have also labelled China’s actions in Xinjiang a genocide. The sanctions were imposed on four Chinese officials and one entity. China countered by imposing sanctions on the EU by targeting 10 individuals, five of which are members of the European Parliament and four EU entities.
