Top EU officials met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on December 7, 2023, the first in-person leader meeting between the two sides in four years. During the talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, Xi called on the EU to strengthen its partnership with China, with issues ranging from trade imbalance to Ukraine, expected to be on the agenda.
