It’s 12 months to the day since Lucky With You ended a long winning drought in The TVB Cup (1,200m) and Luke Ferraris is optimistic history can repeat at Sha Tin on Saturday.
Frankie Lor Fu-chuen’s consistent galloper relished dropping back from Group One company to strike in the race last year, before backing it up at his next start to notch back-to-back victories.
Last year’s TVB Cup was a Class One but Saturday is an extended Class Two, which will be Lucky With You’s first start in the grade since November 2023.
Since then, the son of Artie Schiller has also finished second behind Lucky Sweynesse in the Group One Hong Kong Sprint (1,200m) and runner up to Victor The Winner in the Group One Centenary Sprint Cup (1,200m), while also running in the top five in multiple other Group Ones.
Smart win, Lucky With You! 👊

Trailing the world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising in four of five starts this season, the now eight-year-old gets his chance down in class and Ferraris was buoyed by his ideal draw in gate three.
“Hopefully history repeats itself. He’s finally drawn a barrier after some torrid barriers, so that will help a bit,” Ferraris said.
“Age probably isn’t on his side but he still feels good, so if he gets the right run in transit, hopefully he can produce what he has in the past. He should get a fair chance from that barrier. He’s a lovely horse – he deserves another win.”
Lucky With You carries top weight of 135lb against a handy field including last-start Class Two winner Invincible Shield, Wunderbar, the consistent Patch Of Stars, Magic Control and Victor The Winner.

Armed with a book of seven rides on Saturday, Ferraris will also hop aboard a pair of Mark Newnham’s BMW Hong Kong Derby (2,000m) entrants in Legend Winner and Winfield.
Legend Winner tackles the Class Three TVB Miss Hong Kong Pageant Handicap (1,600m), which is restricted to four-year-olds, off the back of two encouraging runs from his three local starts.
Unbeaten from three starts in Australia when known as Magic Stalker, the Pierata gelding wasn’t beaten far first up at Sha Tin before a solid third to Lovero over a mile.
Ferraris said Legend Winner didn’t handle the seven-day turnaround on his following start and is capable of bouncing back from the inside draw on Saturday.
“He was perhaps maybe a bit flat just on the quick back up, but he’s run some good races and with the aid of a good draw, the freshen up seems to have done him well,” Ferraris said.

“He’s got that sort of spark about him again, so if he can get a similar run to what he did second up this season, then hopefully he can produce a bit of a stronger finish. He’s a nice horse and if he can get his rating up, I’m sure the Derby could be in his grasp.”
Winfield has struggled in his two local starts on turf, but the dual Brazilian Group One winner could improve sharply on the dirt in the Class Three TVB Lo And Behold Handicap (1,650m).
“His work on the dirt suggests he flies around there,” Ferraris said of Winfield, who won a Group Three dirt race by almost 17 lengths pre-import.
“He’s a very difficult ride – he doesn’t make it easy for the jockey, but hopefully with the good draw [in barrier one] and what I think looks to be a lack of speed in the race, he can get a soft time in front and if he can work with me a little bit, hopefully he can produce a run.”
Bigtime Generation, Charity Together, Fashion Legend and Fast Responder are the other weekend rides for Ferraris, who sits seventh in the jockeys’ championship on 22 wins.
