Matthew Chadwick’s wish to reunite with Patch Of Cosmo has come true and the four-time Group One-winning jockey is excited about his prospects in Sunday’s Classic Mile at Sha Tin.
Chadwick regained the ride after Zac Purton picked Brazilian import Sagacious Life from a plethora of Classic Mile options just before he booted home Patch Of Cosmo in his stunning return from injury on January 18.
Chadwick guided Manfred Man Ka-leung’s quality galloper to victory in two of his three rides on the son of Super Seth at the end of last season.
Patch Of Cosmo’s impressive campaign was cut short when he suffered a tendon injury, but he returned 10 months later to launch a late bid for the four-year-old series with an impressive first-up triumph.
Big return from Patch Of Cosmo! 🙌

“I was always looking and hoping to get back on him if he was able to get into the Classic Mile,” Chadwick said.
“I rode him a bit last season and he showed some real tenacity and some real fight, so it will be interesting to see what his ceiling is because he hasn’t hit it yet.
“It’s good to be able to get back on and see how he’s improved this season and how he’s come on from his last run.
“He’s a lovely, gross horse and he has a lovely character. He does what you ask him to do. I think he’ll be in with a shout – hopefully he can be in the finish with them.”

A four-time Sha Tin winner last term, Patch Of Cosmo overcame his long absence and top weight of 135lb to charge to victory in the Class Three Tennis Handicap (1,600m) first up.
That success boosted his rating to 84, which comfortably put him into the Classic Mile field of 14.
In other Classic Mile news, Luke Ferraris has picked up the ride on brilliant last-start winner Akashvani as the young South African bids to repeat last year’s win in the race courtesy of My Wish.
The David Hayes-trained Akashvani bolted into calculations for the first leg of the four-year-old series when he scored by three lengths on the same day as Patch Of Cosmo’s win.

Crimson Flash – one of four runners for trainers’ championship leader Mark Newnham – will be ridden by Andrea Atzeni.
Newnham has also booked Lyle Hewitson on Brazilian import Winfield, while Hugh Bowman and Alexis Badel retain the rides on the in-form Invincible Ibis and Infinite Resolve respectively.
Badel has faith in Infinite Resolve’s class after a breakthrough victory and fast-finishing second this month, but the Frenchman said 1,600m is a potential hurdle for the son of Snitzel.
“We’re heading towards an unknown distance for him – that will be the question mark,” Badel said.

“I believe the quality is there, but there is uncertainty about the distance. If everything goes smooth and he gets the right run, I think he’s a talented horse and he will have his chance in the race.”
Badel was buoyed by Infinite Resolve’s first local test beyond six furlongs when he stormed home from last for an eye-catching second to Classic Mile fancy Little Paradise over 1,400m on January 11.
“The other day was a test of stamina and we decided to give him a chance and ride him to finish from the draw and he did very well,” Badel said.
“He finished very strongly and it was a very promising effort. He seems to be improving.”
