Sha Tin hosts another feature day this public holiday Wednesday, with the Group Three National Day Cup (1,000m) the highlight of the season’s seventh meeting.
There are 10 races on the card and Sam Agars is in the hot seat to provide an extended rundown of his selections.
Race 1 – Class Five Shenyang Handicap (1,400m)
Tsuen Wan Glory has been working well since a solid late-August trial and he looks the one to beat if apprentice Britney Wong Po-ni can find the front from gate 12.
Race 2 – Class Four Chongqing Handicap (1,200m) – second section
Aurora Patch overcame a wide gate to run a nice first-up second behind Spicy Standard, who has since run well again, and he should get the perfect run from gate two under Hugh Bowman.
Spicy Standard at any old price! 🤯

Race 3 – Class Five Nanning Handicap (1,200m)
New trainer Brett Crawford has his horses running well and there should be enough pace in this race to allow Double Show to run over the top of them late.
Race 4 – Class Four Chongqing Handicap (1,200m) – first section
Rewarding Twinkle showed improvement without winning through his first season of racing and a recent trial suggests he’s ready to salute from a good draw.
Race 5 – Class Four Jinan Handicap (1,800m)
Beauty Viva was finishing strongly during his first-up fifth over a mile on September 21 and the step up to 1,800m looks ideal.
Race 6 – Class Four Chengdu Handicap (1,400m)
Victory Champion produced a storming run from the back of the field when just falling short in his recent debut and he should be too strong for them here from an improved gate.
Four wins for @zpurton at Sha Tin! 🫡

Race 7 – Group Three National Day Cup (1,000m)
Still the only horse to beat Ka Ying Rising, Wunderbar gives the feeling he might have quite a bit more to give. Benefiting from a 15lb weight swing on Beauty Waves compared to their last meeting in June, Wunderbar also meets Magic Control better off at the weights and he should kick off his season in style here.
Race 8 – Class Two Beijing Handicap (1,400m)
Only the really good horses keep winning when they get this far up in the ratings so quickly, but it’s hard to oppose Hong Lok Golf after a debut season that featured six wins and an unlucky second from seven starts.
Race 9 – Class Three Shanghai Handicap (1,200m)
Akashvani resumed with a solid second behind the smart Bulb General and he doesn’t meet anything of that ilk here.
Race 10 – Class Three Tianjin Handicap (1,400m)
Impressive when saluting at $70 on Hong Kong debut, Silvery Breeze was solid without being spectacular in three subsequent starts before being tangled up in a brutal Sha Tin fall in February. The break might be just the reset he needs and he can topple them late.
