Vincent Ho Chak-yiu has been transferred from the intensive care unit at Prince of Wales Hospital to the general ward at Union Hospital as he continues his recovery from the injuries he sustained in a race fall at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Ho suffered a head injury and minor shoulder and neck fractures when falling from Oldtown in race six on the weekend, with the Jockey Club saying on Monday that he is expected to heal from his injuries “with conservative management”.
It was confirmed on Sunday that Ho was “awake, coherent and has full limb movement”.
Ho was one of four jockeys injured in a tough afternoon at Sha Tin on Sunday, with Zac Purton, Angus Chung Yik-lai and Keith Yeung Ming-lun also sidelined, and the Jockey Club is in the process of securing a couple of riders as cover on short-term contracts.
More immediately, star couple Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle will jet into Hong Kong to ride at this Sunday’s Sha Tin meeting and the fixture at Happy Valley next Wednesday.
Purton and Chung could be sidelined for as long as six weeks, while Yeung is hoping to return in a fortnight.
