Healthy Healthy completed the rare feat of two wins in the same week and sealed a treble for Vincent Ho Chak-yiu with a thrilling victory at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Backing up from a narrow Happy Valley triumph on Wednesday night, Pierre Ng Pang-chi’s consistent sprinter registered his first Sha Tin success in the Class Three Humphreys Handicap (1,000m).
The son of Per Incanto overcame a seven-pound penalty for his Valley win when he charged from just off the speed to pip Stellar Express on the line by a nose.
“It’s a very good result for the owners – two wins in a week,” Ng said after Healthy Healthy scored his fifth career win.
“It just depends on entries, when [backing up] is available, we’ll do that. You can see he travels a lot better than at the Valley. We were lucky today – he just got up in the final stride.”

Victorious on Wednesday night at Happy Valley, Healthy Healthy does it again at Sha Tin today, sealing a @Vincenthocy treble from the first five races... 🔥#LoveRacing | #HKracing pic.twitter.com/8HRND2YVcw
Strongly supported late into $4.5, Healthy Healthy travelled smoothly down the centre of the straight track but was set a task as Stellar Express raced to the lead inside the 300m.
He prevailed in a pulsating photo finish, relegating Stellar Express to his sixth placing from 11 winless starts in Hong Kong.
Super Fortune was a length behind in third, while the $2.5 favourite Ka Ying Victory was an unlucky eighth after jumping awkwardly and getting held up for clear running until late.
“He was actually a bit fresh, that’s why he pinged the gate and was up there on the speed,” Ho said of Healthy Healthy, who delivered the top jockey his 600th career win in Hong Kong on Wednesday night.
“He has rarely raced at Sha Tin, so I think he really enjoyed the change of environment.”
Ho won three of the first five races on Sunday’s card when he also booted home Chris So Wai-yin’s debutant The Boom Box in the Class Four Cameron Handicap (1,200m) and Me Tsui Yu-sak’s Vulcanus in the Class Five Carnarvon Handicap (1,200m) on dirt.
Hong Kong’s leading home-grown jockey continued to build momentum heading into a pivotal week, as he defends his Longines International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) title at the Valley on Wednesday night and teams up with Ng’s stable star Galaxy Patch in the Group One Hong Kong Mile next Sunday.
“It’s exciting to be involved in the Jockeys’ Championship, but I just take it race by race and see what happens,” Ho said.
Rides for the four legs of the IJC will be allocated to the 12 jockeys competing in the event on Monday morning.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Hugh Bowman matched Ho’s treble to add to his own momentum ahead of his bid for a second IJC title.
The Australian ace was successful on Danny Shum Chap-shing’s Reliable Profit in the Class Four Middle Handicap (1,800m) on dirt, the Mark Newnham-trained Talents Ambition in the Class Three Mody Handicap (1,650m) on dirt and Ricky Yiu Poon-fai’s Dragon Joy in the Class Four Nathan Handicap (1,400m).
Bowman is back in form at the right time after ending a 46-ride drought with victory on Gallant Valour at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.
“It’s just nice for the horses to be running well. Winning is good,” Bowman said. “It had been a frustrating month but, in saying that, there was only two or three meetings where I really went home thinking ‘what’s wrong?’.
“The other times, even if I wasn’t riding winners, I was riding placings. The IJC is going to be more determined by the horses that are drawn – I know I can do the job if I’m on the right horses.”
