An injured whale died in the waters off Hong Kong’s Lantau Island in the early hours of December 1, 2024, despite authorities activating a contingency plan to rescue the animal. The whale, which measured about five to six metres in length, was found stranded in the waters near Tai O village on November 30. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department announced its death, indicating that the whale carcass would undergo a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
