Financial woes at Hong Kong's commercial gyms open doors for freelance fitness trainers

The closure of several major gym companies in Hong Kong over several years, including the recent shuttering of the Physical Fitness chain, has left fitness professionals and clients looking for alternatives to commercial workout spaces. A growing number of trainers are taking the freelance route, opting to work for themselves rather than a chain, or opening their own independent fitness studios. Many have found success with clients who say they are also fed up with paying monthly gym fees and being pressured to buy packages or sign long-term membership contracts at corporate-owned fitness centres. The Post spoke to some of the trainers to learn how they are adapting to the new challenges.
