The Chinese and American defence chiefs, Wei Fenghe and Lloyd Austin, squared off over Taiwan and Ukraine on June 10, 2022, on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. Beijing described the meeting as “constructive” despite China and the US remaining at odds over a wide range of issues.
