The Chinese and US defence ministers held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on May 31, 2024. It was the first in-person meeting between ministers since 2022. A spokesman for China’s defence ministry said both sides had “positive, practical and constructive” communication at the strategic level and they exchanged views on Taiwan, the South China Sea and the war in Ukraine.
