PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE
Fortune Whiskey has bobbed up for placings in two of seven starts this term, including a rallying third behind Awesome Treasure over this track and trip in December. He come into this off a near last to fifth effort behind Master Resolute and he's ideally drawn for Dylan Browne McMonagle. Giant Ballon reeled off a second, fourth and third in three consecutive runs from awkward draws when trying the Valley 1,200m before staying on a one-paced fifth after a prominent run 10 days ago over the Sha Tin 1,200m. He's the main danger. Giant Leap has disappointed with only a third over the dirt 1,200m from nine outings this term but is a well rated runner on the back of two C&D successes off today's 57 and 63 in April and did have a slight excuse when a pace stalking seventh from gate 11 last start. Duke Of Orange went okay in his first two starts over the Sha Tin 1,200m, before coming away a never properly tested seventh to Amazing Kid when trying the Valley 1,200m. He could surprise with a clean trip from gate three.
TROUBLE IN RUNNING
TOP THRONE (K116) shifted out abruptly after the start. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and failed to run on in the Home Straight - Race 431.
GIANT BALLON (K451) near the 500M shifted out to improve and made contact with a runner - Race 456.
DUKE OF ORANGE (K540) jumped only fairly. Rider stated that his mount, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, raced greenly and making the turn near the 550M hung out and was checked. When questioned rider stated that making the Home Turn he committed to following the 3rd placegettter as he felt that horse would give him a good opportunity to improve into the race. He said as he committed to the outside of another runner to follow the 3rd placegettter, the latter runner shifted out which presented a run to that horse's inside. He said as he was to the outside of the latter runner he elected to continue to follow the 3rd placegettter but his mount had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300M and the 150M when that runner did not improve as he had expected it would - Race 390.
RISING ELITE (K544) was slow to begin. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 439.
HAPPY UNITED (H208) jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped a runner. Over-raced in the middle stages and got its head up near the 600M when being restrained off heels - Race 429.
YEE CHEONG SPIRIT (H379) was slow to begin and then a short distance later was checked when crowded for room. Rider reported that the pre-race plans were to take up a forward position, however, was unable to do so after the incident at the start - Race 415.
CIRRUS SPEED (K279) jumped only fairly and shortly after the start made contact with a runner - Race 394.
ENJOY GOLF (J222) rider stated that his mount failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight and the performance overall was disappointing. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 428.
PRESTIGE SUPERIOR (K383) over-raced in the middle stages and was checked near the 700M - Race 433.
ALWAYS AHEAD (L055) approaching the 700M was bumped. Near the 300M was tightened for room when giving ground. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event - Race 420.
