TROUBLE IN RUNNING

GRAND NOVA (J323) leaving the 300M was bumped. Leaving the 250M was crowded, shifted out and made contact with a runner - Race 840.

MASTER CHAMPION (K266) raced wide and without cover from the 800M - Race 063.

COPPER CORE (L214) jumped awkwardly and then shortly after the start was checked when crowded. Approaching the 250M was steadied when unable to continue to improve to the outside of a runner - Race 042.

SUPERB KING (K479) rider stated that the instructions were to go forward. He said his mount jumped only fairly and then was crowded. He said as a consequence his mount settled further back in the field than intended - Race 042.

VIGOR EYE (L068) shortly after the start shifted in and blundered when making contact with a runner. Rider reported that when under pressure in the Home Straight his mount lay in and when a runner improved to his outside his mount shifted in and away from that runner. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 843.

BEAUTY SHOW (L260) shortly after the start shifted out and made contact a runner. When questioned rider stated that his mount was pressured in the lead in the early stages. He said on the Home Turn his mount came under pressure and shifted ground and as a result in the Home Straight he did not fully test the horse to the finish of the event. Trainer agreed with the assessment of rider that the horse did not appreciate being pressured in the lead but could offer no other explanation for the horse's performance. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Finished tailed out and performance was considered unacceptable. Has since performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam - Race 016.

GOLDEN ACE (L461) on jumping made contact with a runner. When questioned regarding his riding of the horse, which was having its first race start, rider stated that the instructions were to settle the horse where comfortable and he was given no other instructions in relation to where to position the horse during the event. He said after being bumped at the start he did not ride his mount along in the early stages to allow it to balance and settle where comfortable in accordance with the instructions. When questioned if there was an opportunity to encourage his mount to hold a more forward position rider stated that as the horse raced greenly he elected to allow it to settle towards the rear of the field where it was travelling comfortably. He added that throughout the middle stages his mount continued to race greenly and entering the course proper near the 400M became unbalanced. He said when positioned behind and to the outside of a runner near the 400M he contemplated shifting to the inside of that runner to follow the eventual winner but elected to remain racing behind the 6th placegetter as he was of the opinion that horse was travelling well enough to provide him with a horse to follow into the event. When questioned if there was an opportunity to ride the horse with more vigour between the 400M and the 200M rider stated that as he was still assessing where he was going to improve he continued to encourage his mount forward but not applying full vigour which allowed his mount to improve behind that runner. He said when that runner did not improve as he had expected this resulted in his mount being badly held up for clear running between the 200M and the 150M before he was able to shift to that runner's outside to secure clear running. He further stated that from this point on his mount finished the race off well under hard riding. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued and expressed satisfaction with the ride. After considering his explanation the Stewards advised the rider that, in their opinion, he should have applied more pressure to the horse in the early stages to maintain a more forward position and secondly between the 400M and the 200M to ride his mount with more urgency to endeavour to improve to the inside of the 6th placegetter earlier in the Home Straight. Rider was advised that in future he should ride his mounts in a manner to leave no room for query. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 819.

IRON SECURITY (L174) had its right hind plate adjusted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the vet and passed suitable to race. Leaving the 900M commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied - Race 022.

JACKSON HABIT (L036) jumped only fairly. From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 840.

MAPOGO (L175) lay in over the concluding stages and approaching the winning post made contact with the running rail - Race 042.

FLYING HUNTER (L247) post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 849.
