Sunday’s race meeting at Sha Tin will go ahead with the Jockey Club securing approval from the Hong Kong government on Sunday morning.

Doubt had been raised over the Jockey Club’s ability to race on in light of tough new government restrictions which limit public gatherings to a maximum of four as they attempt to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Despite the crackdown, Jockey Club officials were “optimistic” they would be able to continue racing as there are no restrictions placed on how many people can congregate in a workplace.

By stopping owners from attending the races, the Jockey Club was able to argue it fell into that category.

A small crowd watch on at Sha Tin.

The 10-race card begins at 12.45pm with only stable staff, licensed persons and racing media allowed to be there.
