Between the biased tracks and crazy tempos on Sunday and the fact that we’re so close to the end of the season, it has become a trick to find a black booker which will get a chance before the summer break but John Size-trained three-year-olds D B Pin and House Of Fun look likely prospects.

We will see the best of both horses next season but Size will likely persist with them for this term in an effort to get them some experience and a breakthrough win.

D B Pin looks a really nice prospect after pressing Dancing Flames all the way to the line in the 1,000m opener, even though this trip is certainly not going to be his thing.

D B Pin’s mother Pins ‘N’ Needles was a black type class galloper in New Zealand, including a second in the Group One Thorndon Mile, and her son by Darci Brahma looks capable of joining a host of his stablemates as a potential Group horse himself later on.

D B Pin is a half-brother to another former Size-trained horse, Keep-A-Pin, who showed good promise in just a handful of starts, strolling home in Class Four at his fifth start before injury ended his career.

It wouldn’t surprise if Size took the same path with D B Pin as he did with Love Shock, who was a good second down the straight on debut then ran away with a 1,200m race second up.

House Of Fun appeals as more of a slow burner than D B Pin and he got the Size treatment with a Happy Valley sprint run on debut before going straight to 1,400m second-up, where he overraced in a muddling tempo.

Up to 1,600m on Sunday, the pace was more even and House Of Fun found a better rhythm for Joao Moreira then went clear like the winner at the 200m but found Little Fantasy too solid.

The winner is nothing special but he is a lot more experienced and seasoned than House Of Fun who will certainly end up the better racehorse and looks ready to score next time out.
