The US Postal Service has temporarily suspended inbound parcels from Hong Kong and mainland China until further notice. The February 5, 2025, announcement came a day after the US started imposing a new 10 per cent tariff on Chinese goods. It was not immediately clear if the postal suspension was linked to Beijing’s tariffs in retaliation for the levies imposed by US President Donald Trump’s administration. The US tariffs included ending an exemption for products worth less than US$800. Washington said the exemption was a loophole allowing Chinese online retail companies to sell cheap products to US consumers.
