Could a far-right shift in the EU parliament change its relations with China?

The European elections, which ended on June 9, 2024, saw the political coalition of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen win the most seats. However, the poll results provided great electoral gains for far-right parties. Von der Leyen is seen as tough on Beijing and likely to push the European Union towards de-risking China if she is renewed as the head of the commission. In France, the successes of far-right candidates led President Emmanuel Macron to call for snap elections and a period of political uncertainty.
