2022 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to activists from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus

The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Belarusian human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski, the Russian human rights organisation Memorial, and the Ukrainian human rights group Centre for Civil Liberties. According to the committee, this year’s laureates represent civil society in their home countries, where they have promoted the right to criticise power and protect the fundamental rights of citizens for many years. Last year’s award went to journalists Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia.
