Atomic bomb survivors renew call for nuclear weapons ban after Nobel Peace Prize win

Nearly eight decades after atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a long line formed outside the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. The previous day, Nihon Hidankyo – a group of atomic bomb survivors – won the Nobel Peace Prize. Announcing the honour on October 11, 2024, the Nobel Committee praised the grass-roots organisation’s efforts to warn about the dangers of nuclear weapons and to give survivors hope.
