Pope Francis dies at age 88

Pope Francis was head of the Catholic Church for 12 years. The first pontiff born or raised outside Europe since the 8th century was known for his progressive-leaning views. He was also instrumental in restoring ties with China, ending a 60-year tug of war between the Holy See and Beijing.
