The United States has pledged an “enduring commitment” to the Pacific Islands, said Vice-President Kamala Harris in a video address to the Pacific Islands Forum in Suva, Fiji, on July 13, 2022. Harris also announced that US funding for the Pacific Islands would triple to US$60 million per year for 10 years, subject to congressional approval, with plans to establish two new embassies in the region. Pacific Island leaders welcomed the pledge to combat illegal fishing, improve safety at sea and tackle climate change.
