‘King tides’ devastate Tuvalu capital, delay prime minister election

Tuvalu was swamped by gigantic waves on February 11, 2024, flooding most of the country’s capital, and delaying the country’s prime minister election. Several newly elected lawmakers were unable to sail to the capital island of Funafuti. The Pacific island nation is expected to be completely submerged by the end of the century.
