A Hong Kong court has convicted a now-defunct online news service and two former editors of conspiracy to publish seditious articles after the city’s adoption of the national security law four years ago. The district court ruling, handed down on August 29, 2024, marked the first time a judge hand-picked by the city’s leader to adjudicate proceedings under the Beijing-decreed law, had set down the acceptable boundaries for news reporting, especially on sociopolitical topics.
