Hong Kong reporter accuses Wall Street Journal of sacking her over union role

Three weeks after Hong Kong journalist Selina Cheng was elected the new chairwoman of the Hong Kong Journalists Association, Cheng said the Wall Street Journal fired her. In a press conference on July 17, 2024, Cheng said she was laid off because of her role in fighting for press freedom. The US news outlet told the Post it would not comment on specific employees and maintained it was “a fierce and vocal advocate for press freedom in Hong Kong and around the world”.
