Hong Kong artist Kacey Wong seeks greater ‘artistic expression’ in Taiwan

Nearly 90,000 Hong Kong residents have left the city amid a recent wave of emigration. Among them is Hong Kong artist Kacey Wong, who moved to Taiwan in July 2021. The 51-year-old artist says he feared being targeted under the Beijing-imposed national security law, which bans acts of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces. As an artist who often satirises and criticises those in power, he says he no longer felt he could practise his art freely in the city.
