Hong Kong Bar Association chairman Victor Dawes has called on residents to have faith in the judiciary amid a complicated geopolitical environment, defending the city’s judges as “first class” and stressing national security cases are just one aspect of the system.
Dawes, who will step down from his post on January 23 after a three-year stint, has also urged the government to offer more transparency and clarity about national security legislation to boost public understanding, noting “perception matters”.
