Hong Kong’s classic green and white Star Ferry has been carrying passengers between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon for more than 120 years. But in March 2022, the company announced that it had lost more than HK$70 million (US$8.9 million) over the past two years, citing the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2019 social unrest as contributing factors. The Star Ferry said in July that it is looking for solutions to help ease its way out of its financial troubles, including the possibility of fare adjustments.
