Citybus eyes green future with hydrogen-powered double-decker bus, but is Hong Kong ready?

Financial support from the government will be critical to grow a domestic hydrogen industry in Hong Kong, according to Citybus General Manager for Engineering Kenny So. So said he believes hydrogen buses can be a one-to-one replacement for diesel vehicles when covering the same work volume. Currently, more than two battery-operated electric buses are needed to do the same amount of work. So spoke with the Post on June 13, 2024, during an interview from inside the city’s first and only hydrogen-powered double-decker bus. The public transport firm now relies on one refuelling station in West Kowloon to operate the vehicle, which went into service on February 25, 2024.
