Large quantities of dead sardines, mackerel and other fish washed up off the coast of Japan on December 7, 2023. The sighting covered a 1km (0.62 mile)-wide area off the Japanese coast near the Toi Fishing Port in Hokkaido prefecture. Local fishermen said it was the first time they have seen that much dead fish wash ashore.
