Japan’s biggest wildfire in more than 30 years continues to rage, with at least 2,100 hectares scorched and one fatality reported so far. The blaze on the outskirts of Ofunato in Iwate prefecture is the fourth to hit the region since February 19, 2025. At least 84 buildings have been destroyed in the area on the northeast coast of Japan’s main island, where the local government has ordered nearly 4,600 people to evacuate.
