A new high-speed sleeper train service from Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai launched its first service on June 15, 2024. The overnight trains with sleeper carriages can take passengers from Hong Kong to the Chinese capital in about 12.5 hours and Shanghai in 11 hours. Travellers were buzzing with excitement in Hong Kong as they boarded high-speed sleeper trains for their maiden trips from the West Kowloon rail terminus. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung was among those taking the train to Beijing West railway station.
