China says US balloons flew over Xinjiang, Tibet as diplomatic row deepens

A diplomatic rift between China and the United States has deepened, with Beijing accusing Washington of flying high-altitude balloons into its airspace and that of other countries, as the US military examined debris of a suspected Chinese spy balloon it downed in February 2023. Attention to past intrusions of Japan's airspace has also heightened since Washington briefed officials from dozens of nations about the balloon, leading Tokyo to criticise Beijing.
