US President Donald Trump said he would speak to Chinese leader Xi Jinping “at the appropriate time”, adding that he was “in no rush” to discuss the two countries' recent escalation of the trade war between the two countries. Trump imposed a 10 per cent import duty on Chinese goods coming into the US. He also ended duty-free rules on imports under US$800 that had favoured Chinese e-commerce companies like Shein and Temu. Beijing responded with additional tariffs of 10 to 15 per cent on a host of US exports, including coal and natural gas imports from the US as well as pickup trucks.
