US President Donald Trump announced plans for customised reciprocal tariffs on all of the nation’s imports on February 13, 2025, claiming other countries have imposed unfair duties on American goods. The new levies, seen as a further US move towards a global trade war, would take effect after a six-month assessment by the director of the US Office of Management and Budget with input from other departments and agencies. The US Trade Representative and the Commerce Department would be responsible for proposing new tariffs on a country-by-country basis.
