US President Donald Trump told world business leaders gathered at the World Economic Forum on January 23, 2025, that they must manufacture in the United States or face tariffs. In Trump’s first major speech at the gathering in Davos, Switzerland, since his return to the White House, he also voiced optimism about Sino-American relations. Joining the annual meeting via video from Washington, Trump described his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “very good” and that the nations needed only to make their trade relationship “fair”. Trump has said he is considering a 10 per cent tariff on imports from China starting on February 1. He also used his Davos speech to outline a commitment to cutting business taxes and reducing inflation.
