Japan is set to deploy drones for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, which was severely damaged in the 2011 tsunami-triggered nuclear disaster. On January 23, 2024, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) completed testing the drones, which will help assess the extent of the nuclear reactor’s damage and understand how to remove the melted fuel debris. Experts predict the decommissioning process will span decades.
