PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE
Helene Supafeeling showed a good turn of foot to win his local debut over today's trip before staying on for minor cheques five times. He has since trialled fine and should map nicely from gate four. Solid State toyed with Superb Spirit on his local debut over 1,200m in July before returning second best travelling near the front as the hot favourite over the straight 1,000m. He merits respect with Zac Purton climbing aboard over a more suitable trip. Almighty Lightning rallied strongly ridden back from gate 14 in June for a second win and first in Class Three plus seconds once each up to 1,200m from five consecutive runs before producing a grinding sixth. He should have further room for improvement and must be kept safe. City Gold Banner failed six times to add to an opening Hong Kong win over the straight 1,000m in January but did rally once for fourth behind the smart Mr Incredible from two 1,200m runs and should get a nice run from gate one.
TROUBLE IN RUNNING
HELENE SUPAFEELING (L028) bumped shortly after the start - Race 738.
SOLID STATE (L411) shifted in at the start and made contact with a runner. Over the final 500M lay in under pressure - Race 026.
GOLD PATCH (L099) approaching the 700M was steadied when crowded. Rider stated that after receiving interference approaching the 700M his mount was under pressure before giving ground in the Home Straight but he could offer no explanation for the horse's disappointing performance. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 010.
BUNTA BABY (J465) crowded shortly after the start. Over the concluding stages raced tight - Race 035.
CITY GOLD BANNER (L155) shortly after the start shifted out and made contact with a runner. Approaching the 1000M was bumped when taken wider. For some distance near the 700M raced keenly when being steadied to obtain a position with cover. Rider stated that his mount was not comfortable on the track which, whilst still rated as "Good", had some give due to rain which had fallen at the start of the meeting. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 866.
THE UNIQUE STAR (L122) near the 450M was bumped and taken wider - Race 764.
SHANGHAI WARRIOR (L434) when questioned rider stated that approaching the 500M his mount, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong, shifted in abruptly, resulting in him losing balance and his right foot being dislodged from his stirrup for some distance thereafter. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the horse - Race 772.
LIFELINE EXPRESS (H439) bumped shortly after the start - Race 814.
MASTER PAYMENT (L159) raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding the performance rider stated that he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount failed to respond and, in his opinion, would derive a fitness benefit from the performance. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Performance, as a last start winner, was considered disappointing. Has since performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam - Race 010.
ALMIGHTY LIGHTNING (L126) for some distance near the 200M had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving into a narrow run - Race 857.
SYMBOL OF STRENGTH (K352) shifted in slightly near the 550M, was bumped and became unbalanced. Over the concluding stages raced tight and as a result could not be fully ridden out to the finish of the event - Race 043.
