Recap by phillip woo

Bunta Baby had a patient ride third last and responded nicely to just knock off Beauty Thunder for a first win at his 12th local start. He had been knocking on the door with placings in his past two starts. Well backed Beauty Thunder did everything right but get the win after hitting the lead 150m out following a one-off with cover in third from gate eight. He appreciated a return to the Valley 1,000m of a win two runs ago. Punted late Healthy Healthy zipped home late down the outside for third after a patient ride second last from gate 12. He's a winner in waiting at this level. Star Performer ran on well for fourth after a one-off trip from midfield. He's close to a rating bottom. Drifting favourite Super Sixty kept on evenly after a prominent run wide and without cover from gate 11. He had an excuse. Harmony Fire made inroads late to just miss fifth prize money after making his run fourth last from gate nine. It was another honest effort. Lean Master made a mild bid after a rails run from behind midfield. Whacked late in betting Winning Champion ran on without threatening after making his run at the rear from gate six.

Horse No 5 ZETA HEDGE (K295) H Bowman H Bowman stated that his mount was disadvantaged by being pressured in the lead by SNOWTHORN and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 BEAUTY THUNDER (J299) Z Purton Shifted out shortly after the start and was bumped.

Bumped near the 250 Metres.

Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration if there were grounds for a protest/objection against BUNTA BABY being declared the winner due to BEAUTY THUNDER and BUNTA BABY making contact approaching the winning post.

Having regard to the manner in which BUNTA BABY finished the race off and that the contact was due to both runners shifting ground although BUNTA BABY had shifted further, they were satisfied that there were not sufficient grounds to lodge a protest/objection and accordingly declared weighed-in on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 WINNING CHAMPION (K429) R Moore Jumped only fairly.

When questioned R Moore stated that in the early stages when positioned to the outside of BUNTA BABY he was obliged to shift in behind that runner when placed in restricted room.

He said throughout the event his mount hung in which he attributed to the horse still being relatively inexperienced.

He added that throughout the middle stages he was obliged to urge his mount to maintain its position at the rear of the field and upon entering the Home Straight he then commenced to shift the horse out to secure clear running.

He said in the Home Straight his efforts to do so were hindered by the horse hanging in and as a result approaching the 100 Metres, when WINNING CHAMPION was commencing to finish the race off, he was obliged to reduce his vigour for a short distance to ensure that he was able to shift to the outside of CAP LINER which was giving ground.

He further stated that once he obtained clear running WINNING CHAMPION finished the race off well under hands and heels riding.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 BUNTA BABY (J465) W Buick Over the concluding stages lay in and approaching the winning post made contact with BEAUTY THUNDER.
