Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (557) - THE JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1000Meters
Horse No 2 HEROIC MASTER (G394) Z Purton Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.
Near the 700 Metres was steadied when crowded by E UNIVERSE (K De Melo) which shifted in when not clear.
K De Melo was advised to exercise more care.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 SERGEANT PEPPER (E432) J Orman Bumped shortly after the start.
Near the 600 Metres bumped with E UNIVERSE when both runners shifted ground.
Horse No 4 HAPPY UNITED (H208) B Avdulla Lay in over the concluding stages and proved difficult to ride out to the finish.
Horse No 5 THUNDER PRINCE (K017) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 6 ALL'S WELL (K294) B Thompson On jumping shifted out and made contact with HEROIC MASTER.
Horse No 7 SUNNY GALAXY (K328) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.
Shortly after the start then bumped with SERGEANT PEPPER which shifted in slightly.
Near the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of DECRELOT to obtain clear running.
Near the 100 Metres became held up for clear running behind SERGEANT PEPPER and after shifting to that runner's inside near the 50 Metres then could not be ridden out to the finish when held up behind HAPPY UNITED.
Horse No 8 PLENTIFUL (G400) M F Poon When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reason he endeavoured to shift out to obtain clear running, M F Poon stated that his instructions were to endeavour to shift to the outside to obtain clear running in the Home Straight.
He said as a consequence after following COLOURFUL PRINCE he then elected to shift to that runner's outside with a view to obtaining clear running to the outside of HAPPY UNITED.
He said his decision to do so was influenced by his instructions and also that he had expected both COLOURFUL PRINCE and HAPPY UNITED to shift back in towards the rail after running wide on the Home Turn.
He said when HAPPY UNITED maintained its position away from the rail he became disappointed for clear running between HAPPY UNITED and CRYSTAL POWERFUL approaching the 300 Metres which resulted in him having to shift PLENTIFUL back to the inside to secure clear running near the 250 Metres.
Trainer P C Ng confirmed that the preference was for Jockey Poon to shift to the outside in the Home Straight and in the circumstances he was satisfied with the tactics adopted by Jockey Poon.
The Stewards also found the tactics adopted by Jockey Poon were reasonable in the circumstances having regard to his instructions.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 E UNIVERSE (H151) K De Melo Bumped shortly after the start.
Bumped near the 600 Metres.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 10 COUNTRY DANCER (H436) K Teetan Shortly after the start blundered when crowded by E UNIVERSE which shifted in slightly.
Horse No 11 CRYSTAL POWERFUL (H068) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 DECRELOT (J551) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.
Near the 600 Metres was crowded by SERGEANT PEPPER which shifted in after making contact with E UNIVERSE.

Crystal Powerful just touched off favourite Plentiful after a one-out, one-back run to make it back-to-back wins following a step back to 1,000m. He's in a purple patch of form and could win another. Plentiful did everything but get the win after hitting the front 50m out following a box-seat run. It was another fine effort over the Valley 1,000m. Colourful Prince wouldn't go down without a fight after getting hounded for the lead to his outside by Happy United. It was a solid performance on his seasonal reappearance following a lame left fore issue in October. Punted late, Thunder Prince ran on nicely through the middle to just miss a placing after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He can bob up at any moment after producing two pleasing runs following a downgrade. Country Dancer was doing his best work late for fifth after making his run third last from gate 11. It was another honest performance. All's Well made good ground late to finish next best after settling last from gate nine. It was an encouraging debut effort.
