Britain’s new prime minister Rishi Sunak vows ‘stability’ and ‘competence’ at heart of government

Rishi Sunak, the former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, vowed to put “economic stability” and “competence” at the heart of his new government as he became the nation’s youngest prime minister in more than two centuries on October 25, 2022. At 42, Sunak is also the first British-Asian prime minister. He succeeds Liz Truss, who was forced to resign the previous week following a chaotic premiership that saw her economic policies unnerve markets, sending the pound to its lowest level against the US dollar in half a century.
