US Fed raises interest rates by 0.75 percentage point, the biggest hike since 1994

The US Federal Reserve raised its target interest rate by 0.75 percentage point on June 15, 2022, the biggest increase since 1994. The rate hike aims to stem a disruptive surge in inflation. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said it was “essential” that the US brings inflation down to encourage a strong labour market.
