Four astronauts returned safely to Earth early on May 2, 2021, aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule that parachuted through dark skies to waters in the Gulf of Mexico at 2.56am (local time), Nasa said. It marks the first nighttime splashdown for the US space agency since the crew of Apollo 8 arrived in the Pacific Ocean in 1968. The astronauts were returning from a six-month mission on the International Space Station (ISS).
