Japanese space flight company Interstellar Technologies hopes to put satellites in orbit using rockets fuelled by a source that’s cheap and plentiful in the country: cow dung. The use of cow manure as fuel is already being used around the world, and can even potentially mitigate global agriculture’s carbon footprint. But for a resource-poor nation like Japan, developing a home-grown fuel source may also ease concerns about energy security.
