Democrat Raphael Warnock won one of two Senate seats in Georgia after voters went to the polls in the US state for run-off elections on January 6, 2020. Democrats have been locked in tight races against Georgia’s Republican incumbents for the two Senate slots which will determine whether President-elect Joe Biden will be able to take control of Congress or face stiff opposition from the upper chamber as he moves ahead with his reform plans. Warnock defeated his Republican opponent Kelly Loeffler to become the first Black senator in the state’s history. The other senate race in Georgia was still too close to call.
