Shibam, an ancient city in Yemen, is at risk of collapse from neglect and because of heavy rains and flooding that have hit the country in recent months. The Unesco World Heritage Site dates back to the 3rd century, and is known as the “Manhattan of the desert” because of high-rise buildings constructed in around the 16th century. But while Shibam has survived the ravages of time and a recent civil war, it is now falling apart as authorities struggle to secure enough funds to repair areas which have been damaged.
