US President Donald Trump says he wants the US to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere. Trump made the comments after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House on February 4, 2025. Earlier, Trump had suggested that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be “permanently resettled” outside the war-torn region. He repeated his call for Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states to take in people from Gaza, saying Palestinians there had no alternative but to leave the coastal strip, which must be rebuilt after nearly 16 months of war between Israeli forces and Hamas militants.
